One of my favorite memories of Lena Horne on television was when she was on the 1985 episode of “The Cosby Show”, where Rudy Huxtable asked Lena if she could meet Kermit. What she was referring to was this clip from Classic Sesame Street, where Lena sang the song “It’s Not Easy Being Green” with Kermit. I remember watching this as a kid, and feeling just so sad for Kermit, you know? Sure, I didn’t “get” the whole meaning of the song back then, but it sure as heck related to poor Kermie in my mind.

Lena Mary Calhoun Horne was born June 30, 1917 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York City, New York. She grew up in an upper middle class black bourgeois community.
Horne became the first African American performer to sign a long-term contract with a major Hollywood studio, namely Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Ok, so I know it’s a little past the holidays, but I found this clip on YouTube featuring Harry Connick, Jr. and Orlando Jones from a 1996 episode of MadTV.
Revs. LaMont Nixon Fatback and Dr. Michael Cassidy talk about “the true meanin’ of Chrimmah”… all the things you can do with a “Hair Connick, Joonyah” Christmas CD when you’re all alone during the holidays. At the end, they wish you “A Happy Hanukkah from Harry Connicka!”

According to a poll started Jan. 4th, and run on this site through today, Jan. 24th, 15 voters determined that Michael Buble has a better voice, hands down, over Bing Crosby given all other things considered. While I’m in agreement, in a way, I’m kind of surprised at that answer!

Harry’s birthday is on 9/11 (1967). His birth name is Joseph Harry Fowler Connick, Jr. and he was born in New Orleans, LA.
He’s been nicknamed “Vice-Chairman of The Board”. As you may know, Frank Sinatra is “Chairman of The Board”. What an HONOR to be equated! Apparently, Sinatra had nothing but praise for Connick, and referred to him simply as The Kid.
Gave up smoking at the insistence of fellow crooner, Mel Tormé.

Bobby Darin Crooner Week is over, gang. I’m leaving you with an mp3 and lyrics to one of my all time favorite Bobby Darin song and the lyrics. I even snagged a YouTube vid of him singing this one. Can you guess what it is before you click to get through the jump?
