Crooner Week: Bing Crosby – The Restaurant & A Recipe

Bing Crosby’s Restaurant - CaliforniaDid you know that there is a Bing Crosby’s Restaurant? I didn’t! There’s a piano lounge, country club (dues are $125/year), and private dining, and right now you can enter to win a dinner for four for free by entering your name and email (subscribing to their newsletter)! They’re currently located in Walnut Creek and Rancho Mirage, California, with a third location to open in San Diego sometime this year. “Cool and hip never go out of style.” is the restaurant’s motto, and the interior of the restaurant truly does remind one of a bygone era. I’d LOVE to visit someday! If any of you have ever tried this place out, please let me know in the comments how it was!

Here’s a copy of Bing Crosby’s Waldorf Salad recipe, found on the site in PDF format from an article done on the restaurant:

Ingredients
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp. lemon zest
2 tbsp. lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste

2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1 c. chopped celery
1 c. diced radish
1 c. dried cranberries
1/2 c. diced red onion
4 c. mixed baby lettuces
2 c. watercress
1/2 c. candied walnuts
6 radicchio leaves
1 c. blue cheese crumbles

Preparation
In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Refrigerate while you prepare the ingredients for the salad.

Toss apples, celery, radish, cranberries, and red onion together with the dressing to coat. Fold in lettuces, watercress, and candied walnuts. Place a radicchio leaf on each plate. Smoon salad into the center of each leaf, and top with blue cheese.

Serves 6.

    Hi Lara,
Not only is Bing Crosby’s Restaurant in Walnut Creek hip and cool and a great place to eat…it’s also one of the places in the Bay Area where one could go to hear me sing. I’m singin there this Friday night from 7-11PM. Let me know when you want to visit and I’ll make sure you get the Royal Treatment.
    Happy New Year,
    Bob

I go there a lot and have since it first opened some years ago. It was in instant classic and the first place I take people when I want to show off my town. Its cool, fun, hip, bar, lounge and restaurant. Mark

Thanks Bob and Mark for your input!

Bob – I haven’t forgotten about you and your CD, I’ve been super busy lately, but I promise I’ll give it a listen and review!

If I ever get out there, believe me, it’s on my top 10 list of places to check out!
