Video Week – First YouTube Result for Marilyn Monroe

Video Week – First YouTube Result for Marilyn Monroe

Ah yes, the “Happy Birthday Mr. President” on May 19, 1962 shows up first in YouTube today when searching for “Marilyn Monroe”.
What a classic, if not questionable, display!

So much controversy around this – all the JFK conspiracy theories and such, and this one stands out quite a bit. No wonder they compared Mr. Hillary Clinton to JFK!

Video Week – First YouTube Result for Frank Sinatra

Video Week – First YouTube Result for Frank Sinatra

Time has not been my friend this week – been working on tax stuff, and work stuff, and dealing with a foot of snow.
So this is going to be video week, posting the first YouTube resulting video for select crooners.
Getting started with the most famous of them all, Frank Sinatra, here’s a vid of someone singing “Fly Me To The Moon”. She’s actually got a beautiful voice, she’s just cheezin’ it up a little too much I think.

Oh, and she has a safety pin in her ear… did you notice that? LOL

John Legend-like female neocrooner: Sara Bareilles

John Legend-like female neocrooner: Sara Bareilles

I was watching her on “The View”, and have seen her on TV quite a bit lately. She reminds me of a female version of John Legend with her lyrics, melody, piano playing, and beat. She’s kinda cool, don’t you think?
She’s had little to no formal voice training… she’s a natural!
The big song we hear all the time from her these days is “I’m Not Gonna Write You A Love Song”.
Here’s the lyrics – Video to follow…
Head under water
And they tell me to breathe easy for a while
The breathing gets harder, even I know that
You made room for me but …read more

“B” Movies – Bloopers and Outtakes

“B” Movies – Bloopers and Outtakes

While searching YouTube for some videos of those “home of the future” films of the 40s and 50s, I found this one. It’s kind of funny if you watch the whole thing (they cut some of it up in pieces and spread it out through the film)!
This was a special “blooper” reel prepared by (and for) the staff of the “First Motion Picture Unit”, which produced training films for our fighting forces during World War II – they worked out of the Hal Roach Studios in Culver City, California between 1943 and ‘46.
Pay attention to 4:01, with Ronald Regan!

Top 10 Movies of the 1950s

As determined by Top Ten Reviews, here are the top 10 movies of the 1950’s. The site lists a lot more than that, and given the nature of reviews, this list is subject to change a little over time, but I can’t imagine by much!

Oz Music Scene: Earl Cole

Oz Music Scene: Earl Cole

You might remember my writeup of fellow b5media music blogger Lauren Katulka a few weeks ago. Well, Lauren writes over at Oz Music Scene, and she’s been writing a bit about My Bubble’s visits over in Australia. Of course, she’s also writing about an Aussie native named Earl Cole, who does Michael Bublé tribute shows! HOLY CRAP, OKAY!? Earl Cole’s Back with More Michael Bublé (Thursday 27 March at Perth’s Social Subiaco. The show costs $75.)
I guess Earl’s heading over to Malaysia after that, and it would be oh-so-freakin-awesome if somehow the guy could make it to the …read more

Top Love Songs of the 1950s

Top Love Songs of the 1950s

1950’s music was so varied… You had those hanging on to the crooner-style of the 40s, and then you had the Rock-N-Rollers.
Some of these, I don’t even know! I noticed that Hank Williams was on the scene, however I wouldn’t necessarily call him either a crooner or a rock-n-roller, so I didn’t list his songs here.
How many of these do you know?
Please Send Me Someone To Love – Percy Mayfield
Teardrops From My Eyes – Ruth Brown
Mona Lisa – Nat “King” Cole
Cry – Johnnie Ray
Too Young – Nat “King” Cole
Pledging My Love – Johnny Ace
Goodnite Sweetheart Goodnite – Spaniels

Ever long to have that glamorous look of 1940s pin-up hair, like you’ve seen on the red carpet lately by the likes of Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani? (Of course, let us not forget the “Victory Rolls” or Bettie Page style, which started the whole thing back in the day!)
Well, here’s the perfect video tutorial for you! I might try these out myself someday soon, and make a vid or post some pics!

Guys and Dolls – 1955 “Luck Be A Lady”

Guys and Dolls – 1955 “Luck Be A Lady”

Mr. Nathan Detroit. Whatta guy!
Featuring the song “Luck Be A Lady” (sung in the film by Marlon Brando – NOT Sinatra, as he had done in his stage performances ever afterward). Apparantly, Ol’ Blue Eyes wanted this song/character from the get-go… Wonder why!?

Jude Law: I was haunted by Frank Sinatra!

Jude Law: I was haunted by Frank Sinatra!

(via Times Square Gossip)
Sexy Jude Law was being haunted while on vacation in Cuba by the ghost of singing legend Frank Sinatra. According to published reports, the actor saw a vision of the legendary crooner at the mini-bar in his hotel room…
Are ya SERIOUS!? Shoo… I’d have poured the man a drink and asked him to have one with me!
Read the rest here… quite funny!
