Sandra Dee was an 1950’s ICON. Boys wanted to date her. Girls wanted to BE her. She had a classic “girl next door” appearance and attitude, and this is what won the heart of Bobby Darin. He was so smitten with her, that even her mother’s discontent didn’t sway him.
Here are five facts about one of America’s Sweethearts:
- Born April 23, 1944 in Bayonne, New Jersey, Sandra Dee passed away Feb 20, 2005 of complications from kidney disease.
- It’s no wonder why she chose a stage name, as her birth name was Alexandra Zuck. eep!
- She began her career as a model, and then went on to do television commercials around the age of 14. In 1959, she made 5 movies, something which is still pretty unheard of.
- Sandra Dee’s most famous roles were in “A Summer Place” and “Gidget”, which skyrocketed her to “teen idol” status.
- Sandra and Bobby were married from 1960 to 1967 and had one son, Dodd.
