Lyrics and mp3: Jealousy by Frankie Laine (1951)
Okay, I know he sounds like Elvis. Or an Elvis impersonator. A bad one. But still, here’s Frankie Laine’s “Jealousy”
Jealousy! Night and day you torture me
I sometimes wonder if this spell that I’m under
can only be a melody for I know no one but me
has won your heart but when the music starts
My peace departs from the moment they play that lovely strain
and we surrender to all its charm again
this jealousy that tortures me
is ecstasy, mystery, pain
We dance to a tango of love
your heart beats with mine as we sway
your eyes give the answer I’m dreaming of
that soft word your cruel lips will never say
I fear that the music will end
and shatter the spell it may lend
to make me believe when your eyes just deceive
is only a tango you love

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Frankie helped create greats like Elvis, Johnny Ray and so on! Frankie didnt copy anyone, all he did was belt out the best dam music history ever produced! He was the wizard of Oz, he paved the road to success for all others to simply just follw! RIP Frankie my man…we will never forget!
LOL Marc – Sorry if I offended you! I know he had a lot to do with the development of music as we know/knew it from that time. I still think he sounds (in this particular song, at least) like Elvis or a bad Elvis impersonator.
Just my opinion on this particular tune… It’s okay for you to disagree, right?
Hi Lara
Nothing like Elvis just good old Frankie, thats all folks!
But I respect that you have an opinion…regardless of right or wrong..
At least keep on listening to the man….thats a great thing..
Cheers
Marc
Thanks for the interesting details about Frankie Laine’s life. I remember listening to Jealousy when I was growing up in the 50s in Chicago. My parents loved music and especially tango.
There is a site with interesting details about the author of Jealousy (Jalousie) Jacob Gade, who was born in Denmark. http://www.todotango.com This only shows that not all tango originated in Argentina. Jealousy has been used in over 100 movies.
Frankie sings the last line as:
but it’s only the tango you love.
I enjoyed hearing it once again after so many years.
