Okay everyone – it’s time for the first ever Crooner Culture blog project!
Here’s the skinny…
Everyone has old family photos from the 40’s and 50’s laying around somewhere. Maybe your cousin’s got them all, or your sister, or your 80 year old Uncle Joe. But they’re somewhere.

While searching YouTube for some videos of those “home of the future” films of the 40s and 50s, I found this one. It’s kind of funny if you watch the whole thing (they cut some of it up in pieces and spread it out through the film)!
This was a special “blooper” reel prepared by (and for) the staff of the “First Motion Picture Unit”, which produced training films for our fighting forces during World War II – they worked out of the Hal Roach Studios in Culver City, California between 1943 and ‘46.

Ever long to have that glamorous look of 1940s pin-up hair, like you’ve seen on the red carpet lately by the likes of Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani? (Of course, let us not forget the “Victory Rolls” or Bettie Page style, which started the whole thing back in the day!)

Okay, please don’t take this as any fodder for a political debate on today’s situation, but I had to post this. Not just because it’s Frank Sinatra, or because it’s got him singing in it, or that he’s talking about his views on America and war. It’s amazing how this could be used by either “party” today though. He talks about American pride, dabbles on the 1940’s “melting pot”, and uses some analogies that have been used for decades since about blood and war.
