Crooner Week: Bobby Darin – My all time favorite Darin song, mp3, and lyrics

Crooner Week: Bobby Darin – My all time favorite Darin song, mp3, and lyrics

Bobby Darin Crooner Week is over, gang. I’m leaving you with an mp3 and lyrics to one of my all time favorite Bobby Darin song and the lyrics. I even snagged a YouTube vid of him singing this one. Can you guess what it is before you click to get through the jump?
I’ll give you a hint, my future husband, Michael Bublé does a cover of this one. And I can honestly say that while it’s great, I love Bobby’s original version just a teeny bit more.
Are you ready?

Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darin in “Beyond The Sea”

Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darin in “Beyond The Sea”

Alright, if you haven’t seen this movie yet, get thee to Netflix or your local video store and rent it. Kevin Spacey is an absolutely amazing actor, and proves himself as such in “Beyond The Sea: The Bobby Darin Story”.
You know, I’m always wary when a movie comes out with a modern-day actor playing the part of a legendary musician. I don’t know why, but I guess I fear that the story won’t be told in truth, or that they’ll butcher their character or something like that. I was floored when Jamie Foxx came out with “Ray” and even floored …read more

Crooner Week: Bobby Darin – Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Crooner Week: Bobby Darin – Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

(via Rock and Roll Hall of Fame)
Bobby Darin died in 1973 and never lived to see his own induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 (which I happen to think was long past due, if you ask me) but here are a few details listed about this inductee.

Crooner Week: Bobby Darin’s Dream Lover Video and Lyrics

Crooner Week: Bobby Darin’s Dream Lover Video and Lyrics

In 1959, Bobby Darin recorded “Dream Lover” which was built on a Latin dance rhythm, a shuffle beat called cha-lypso. The song was a subtle move from simplistic rock and roll structure to songs designed to appeal to an older audience. “Dream Lover” was his third million album seller.

Dream Lover Lyrics
Every night I hope and pray
A dream lover will come my way
A girl to hold in my arms
And know the magic of her charms
‘Cause I want (yeah-yeah, yeah)
A girl (yeah-yeah, yeah)
To call (yeah-yeah, yeah)
My own (yeah-yeah)
I want a dream lover
So I don’t have to dream alone
Dream lover, where are you

Bobby Darin Crooner Week About To Begin!

Bobby Darin Crooner Week About To Begin!

Okay, so Bing Crosby week went okay, but I know there’s got to be a lot more out there on Bobby Darin, given his tormented life, his courting and later marriage to Sandra Dee, and all that jazz.
Anyone have any favorite Bobby Darin songs, or clips you’d like to see on the site this week? As I did with Der Bingle, I plan on showing a few YouTube clips and getting some mp3s up for you all, but is there anything you think we might not all be aware of yet that you’d like to see me talk about …read more

Another Bobby Darin Video – Splish Splash – Final Performance

Another Bobby Darin Video – Splish Splash – Final Performance

This video is Bobby Darin at his ultimate best. This was the last performance, 9 months before his death on December 20, 1973. Again, given his torturous life, this is simply amazing to me. This clip’s from “Mack Is Back” – Unedited Concert – Bobby Darin and it’s highly recommended as a “must own” DVD.

Bobby Darin – Mack The Knife Video – 1959

Bobby Darin – Mack The Knife Video – 1959

I love this song – I can’t even tell you why, other than that his voice is cool and I can envision the band. One of the things that makes me love Bobby Darin so much is that he was a performer in every sense of the word. He had a pretty tragic life, and yet when he got on stage, he just wowed people.
I also happen to love Kevin Spacey’s version (and Michael Buble’s of course) – but this is the original Bobby Darin, as part of the “Three Penny Opera” on TV in 1959. He had such …read more
