Dean Martin c. 1964

Dean Martin c. 1964

I stand by the fact that I was just born in the wrong era.
It makes me think about things like reincarnation and stuff sometimes, when I think about how drawn I am to the music and the lifestyle of the 40s, 50s, and 60s… I know, it’s weird, but it really makes me wonder.
Here’s the “drunken dreamboat”… Dino:

Repost: Dean Martin, Queen, and My Trip To Italy

Okay, so here’s proof that I’m a weirdo in having been a fan of this stuff since I was a kid. It also goes to show you how music can unite people in the most wonderful of ways. Grab an espresso and relax, this one’s cute.
When I was 15, I was a foreign exchange student to Italy for the summer. It was without a doubt the best ever summer of my entire life, even up until now. I lived with a fabulous family in Ancona and Marcelli Beach (yep, they owned a beach house) that took me all over the …read more

Speaking of impressions: Sammy Davis Jr. did them too.

Speaking of impressions: Sammy Davis Jr. did them too.

A recent post showed Jim Carrey doing his impression of Sammy Davis, Jr. and gave my sort of moderately-offended-for-Sammy review.
Well here I have a video of Sammy doing impressions of his friends. He sings, “One for my Baby (One More for the Road)” while doing impressions of Fred Astaire, Nat ‘King’ Cole, Billy Eckstine, Vaughn Monroe, Tony Bennett, Mel Tormé, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Kinda cool. As I’m writing the post, the video’s playing in another window. I can’t see it, but I can hear it. And he’s doing a pretty good job of singing a …read more

Allan Sherman, Dean Martin & Vic Damone – I Hate The Beatles

Allan Sherman, Dean Martin & Vic Damone – I Hate The Beatles

From The Dean Martin Show, Oct. 7, 1965. They sing “I Hate the Beatles” (to the tune of “Pop Goes the Weasel”) and other parodies by Sherman. This is really great, and what I call PURE ENTERTAINMENT. It’s awesome… simply awesome.

“Bella… Bela Lugosi” BWAHAHAHA!!!

Dean Martin Quote: What drove him to drinking?

The funny thing is that I could swear I read somewhere that Dino was never TRULY drunk.

Video Week – First YouTube Result for Dean Martin

Video Week – First YouTube Result for Dean Martin

I don’t remember if I’d written about this story before, but the first search result today for Dean Martin in YouTube gave me “That’s Amore” and every time I hear that song, I’m reminded of my silliness as a teenager.
I went to Italy for a summer exchange program when I was 16, and one night, the girls and I couldn’t stop giggling. The host father kept coming up the stairs telling us, in thick Italian, to shut up and go to sleep.
He’d close the door, and we’d start laughing. So I wanted to keep it going, and decided to …read more

I thought I’d put a little collection of Bing Crosby videos from YouTube together here for your viewing pleasure, my dear readers! He was no doubt one heck of an entertainer, and it seems to me that the stars around him just shone brighter because of it, don’t you? Check ‘em out after the jump…

Top 10 Crooners to Invite to the Holiday Office Party

Top 10 Crooners to Invite to the Holiday Office Party

As part of b5media’s music channel list project, our theme this time around is “Top 10 artists/bands to invite to the holiday office party” and of course, I’m going to list crooners! This has to be one of those “alive or dead” things for this category, but here we go:
10. Marilyn Monroe – Yes, she’s a female crooner, and oh man, you can’t help but imagine she’d be a blast at a holiday party, maybe even drinking a Royal Stretch. I have a feeling she’d likely be the one making photocopies of her butt on the xerox machine, but what …read more

EMI plans to extend the Mambo Italiano with Dean Martin

EMI plans to extend the Mambo Italiano with Dean Martin

Well, I know that this news is dated a year ago – and a couple things here mentioned have already happened (ie. the duet with Martina McBride on “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” and the bit about Robbie Williams) but it’s still pretty neat to read the rest of this…

Joe Mantegna has rights to Dino’s biography

Joe Mantegna has rights to Dino’s biography

Actor Joe Mantegna, who played Dean Martin in HBO’s “The Rat Pack” bought the rights to Dean’s biography back in September of 2006, supposedly to make a movie of the famed crooner’s life.
“Mantegna and his producing partner, Danny Ramm, bought the film rights to Memories are Made of This, a biographical memoir written by Martin’s daughter, Deana Martin. – USA Today“
I tried checking IMDB for details on this, and the only thing I came up with was a supposed film made in 2003 that had no info on it. I’d love to see Mantegna play him again, but it seems …read more
