As mentioned a while back, some rare Marilyn Monroe, “behind the scenes” tapes were recently put up for auction. The starting bids were expected to be around $15k, and personally I’m surprised that “On The Set With ‘The Misfits’” didn’t get a whole lot more than US$60,000.
The auction also included the original disco ball from “Saturday Night Fever” and an original script of “The Godfather” signed by Marlon Brando. The sale was held by Julien’s Auctions at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.

Two reels of silent, 8-millimeter color film titled “On Set With The Misfits” is going on the auction block, with bids starting between $10,000 and $20,000. Julien’s Auctions is listing the 47-minute film next month at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
According to the Julien’s Auctions Web site, it’s the original film by amateur photographer Stanley Floyd Kilarr, who shot scenes of the stars and crew during the making of “The Misfits” the final completed film for both its stars, Monroe and Clark Gable.

Anyone got a movie room in their home? You know what I’m talking about, with the huge screen, the big comfy chairs with the coolers in the armrests, surround sound?
I’ve only been in a couple of these, and no, they haven’t all been that extravagant, but people do love movies and they do love to “do up” their movie rooms. Even if you’re just a fan of classic movies, you might have a “man cave” or some such where you tend to decorate with classic movie posters. Okay, I’m not sure if I can believe this or not, and I’m going to give this a NSFW simply because of the topic.
Supposedly, there are 9 FBI agents who have agreed that it is Marilyn Monroe in a newly found, 15 minute, silent, black and white film where Monroe is on her knees in front of a man whose face is just out of the shot. This video is full of these “factual” statements, and the broker tries to say “Out of respect for Marilyn, the video will not be shown anywhere.” Uh. Riiiight.

Not that she needed the help, mind you, but Andy Warhol’s very famous screen prints of Marilyn Monroe in these seemingly clashing colors really had art buyers going bananas back in the 60s.
Part of me would really love to see these in a bathroom, but it’d have to be in a situation where there was a woman’s vanity more than in the “general” bathroom. Marilyn Monroe was pure glam, and just looking at these (despite the funky color combinations) really makes me want to go put on some makeup and head out on the town.
