As part of b5media’s music channel list project, our theme this time around is “Top 10 artists/bands to invite to the holiday office party” and of course, I’m going to list crooners! This has to be one of those “alive or dead” things for this category, but here we go:

This would be something Marilyn Monroe would’ve definitely served at a party… it matches her dress in Gentleman Prefer Blondes! It’s light (thanks to the club soda, but not so light you don’t know you’re drinking), bubbly, and slightly fruity thanks to the cherry juice, grenadine, and the pineapple piece. Light, bubbly and fruity? Yep, sounds like Marilyn to me!

I know, the title of the film is “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” but dammit Jane Russell’s a knockout and makes all us brunette babies envious in this clip from the film. She wasn’t “sweet” looking like Marilyn, and her voice is deeper as well. I’m loving her outfit though, and the hair and makeup are quite beautiful as far as I’m concerned.

Ella married twice, though there is evidence that she may have married a third time. In 1941 she married Benny Kornegay, a convicted drug dealer and hustler. That marriage lasted only 2 years.
Her first ever performance was at one of the very first Amateur Nights at the Apollo Theater in 1934. She sang two songs and went home with the top prize of $25.
